I have tried in vain to find out where James was buried, but no luck. His death cert states that he died 17 July 1944 at 58 Healds Road. Was that the old address for Staincliffe Hospital? His abode was Roberttown. Any help would be most appreciated. I`ve checked parish records & NBI but drawn a blank. Any ideas ?? Thanks. sarah

From 1904 the birthplace of those born in Dewsbury Workhouse was recorded as 58 Healds Road, Staincliffe on their BC.
From 1918 this was extended to the DC of those who died there. [1] [2]
In 1930 the Workhouse was renamed Batley Institution, and the associated Infirmary became Staincliffe General Hospital.
In 1950 the Institution was renamed Beech Towers. [3]

In 2014 the West Yorkshire Archive Service acquired the registers of inmates and residents 1921-1963 [4]
The problem here is that the records may be closed for 100 years, and the place of burial may not be recorded anyway.
Unfortunately WYAS Wakefield is currently closed pending a move to new premises, so you may have to wait a while.

Have you tried the newspaper at that date for the obituary? It may be possible to contact Kirklees library and get someone to look. When I did this at Sheffield it cost me £13.50 for half an hour of their time, but for me it was worth it. I believe that the staff at the local library may search free of charge . The death notice may indicated where the burial was due to take place.

Many thanks for your help. I`ll give those suggestions a try. James was my Gt.Grandfather, so it`s quite sad to think he may even have been buried without a headstone. sarah
