I have recently come across an entry regarding the removal of one of my ancestors & his family from Whitley Lower, Kirkburton. The year range was given as 1807-1809. I am not sure what this means. Any ideas would be most welcome. Sarah

Each person had a 'parish of settlement'. Under the terms of the Poor Law it was the duty of that parish to provide poor relief to those needing it.
Evidently your ancestor and his family had moved from their parish of settlement and had become, or were likely to become,
a burden on the Whitley Lower parish poor rate through, for instance, unemployment or sickness.
A removal order had therefore been obtained under the 1662 Settlement Act to have the family removed from Whitley Lower
and escorted back to their parish of settlement.

Chapter and verse here.
