Hi,
Can anyone please say what the population of the Linthwaite area would have been in 1881 or suggest how I can find out?

I have read in a Redmond/Hey/King book that says in 1881 there were 2,260 Dysons in Linthwaite and the surounding area! It seems difficult to imagine even today?
Thanks
Mike

The Census statistics for the parish, including population, may be found here:
http://tinyurl.com/a37uk5x
The total in 1881 was just over 6000 within in the area shown on the boundary map.

According to http://www.britishsurnames.co.uk/1881census/Yorkshire/Linthwaite
there were 287 Dysons; representing some 4.7% of all persons enumerated in Linthwaite.
