Meltham Baptist Church will celebrate its 200th Anniversary this year.
On Christmas Day 1862 a foundation stone was laid by Mrs Henry Crowther ( this was possibly Mary nee Berry b 1811 of Lockwood) for a new chapel building. She was supported on the platform by Mr Alfred Crowther her son i think who was b 1830. H Crowther & Sons of Lockwood gave £200 towards the building of this new chapel and Alfred Crowther and Josiah Berry ( possibly a relation of Mary) of Lockwood joined the Building committee.
Does any member of the family have any further information on this especially
a silver trowel and mallet which was presented to Mrs Mary Crowther? The 200th Anniversary committee would love to hear from you.
