Greetings, this is my first posting. I would be very grateful if anyone could tell me who was living at this address in 1915 until June of 1916 and, or alternatively, who owned the house at this address. I have discovered that my grandfather left his family around this time and this is the address he provided to the army when he enlisted in June 1916 - not the Heckmondwike address where his wife and children were living. His name was Harry Preston and until he joined the army he worked for the Heckmondwike Co-operative Society as a clerk. Thank you!

I looked for the address in 1911 to see who was there then and found that there was no 17 St Johns Road. The numbers went from 15 to 19. You could try looking at the voting registers in the Huddersfield Library to see if you can find anything.

Thank you so much! I'm in Toronto so I don't think I will be able to get to the Huddersfield Library though.

Hi Debi
there were no Electrol Register published in the 1st world war but in 1914/15 a David Little lived at that address but there was the word [joint]
after his name. I also checked the Directories in 1917 a Wilfred Batemam was there and the word Aparts so wonder if the house was split up into Flats.
in 1920 Henrietta Louisa Day and John Thomas Buxton were at that address

Thank you again Judith. I certainly did not expect that Henrietta and John were living together at 17 St. Johns Rd. Aparts certainly does sound like it could refer to apartments. Every answer leads to more questions! Thank you very much! Debi
