Hi,

I live on Lydgate in Lepton and I am trying to research where Lydgate is on the 1780 map. Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions of what landmarks or field names to look for? As its like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Looking on the 1854 map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk shows Lidgate (sic) to be just to the east of Pond Lane near the Junction with Wakefield Road. It looks more like a locality name than a specific property.

Hi Roger,

Thank you for your reply. I have looked on the 1854 map and I think I have located Lidgate, thank you. However to research further I have viewed the 1780 map, but as the maps were drawn by hand in them days it has proven difficult to find Lidgate on this map. So just wondered if there is a monument pre 1780 that I could possibly look for on the map, which may help me to find Lydgate?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Julia
